Great Work Stratford Stratford Shakespeare Festival

The Homecoming is the second of the Stratford 2011 trifecta of socially challenging plays. (The opposite two are The Grapes of Wrath and Hosanna.) Every of these three performs places familial, social, and sexual assumptions below the microscope. Every has a totally totally different perspective. And none of them is what you’d expect.

This prroduction of The Homecoming comes with a warning about mature content. Don’t brush it off! Pinder’s conditions and dialogue might be downright nasty at times, in a means you might really feel actually uncomfortable about your youngsters seeing. Even Pinder’s finest good friend slammed the door on him after his first reading ofThe Homecoming, then returned an hour later with the apology, “I needed to get some air.” That’s just the sort of play it is.

The Homecoming is a play about a father with three sons. Two reside at home. The third is returning house after an absence of three years. He’s bringing his wife with him, but not his children.
